Hooking Your Audience in 3 Seconds
Write and film openings that stop the scroll before viewers move on.
Most viewers decide within three seconds whether to keep watching. Brands judge UGC on that opening moment, so a strong hook is the most valuable skill you can learn.
Hook formulas that work
- The problem: "I was so tired of nappy rash keeping us up at night."
- The result first: show the finished outcome, then explain how you got there.
- The surprise: "I didn't expect one product to replace three in my routine."
Pair every spoken hook with movement in the first frame, like a product entering the shot or a quick before and after.
Your action steps
- 1Write three different hooks for the same product
- 2Add movement to your first frame
- 3Record each hook and compare which feels most natural
- 4Cut your intro so the hook starts within the first second
