Lesson 16:24Beginners
What is UGC?
What user-generated content is, why brands pay for it, and where Kiwi mums fit in.
UGC, or user-generated content, is photo and video content made by real people rather than by a brand's own studio. Brands use it in ads, on product pages and on social media because it feels honest and relatable, and it often outperforms polished advertising.
As a UGC creator you are not an influencer. You do not need a big following, because brands pay for the content itself and usually post it on their own channels. What they want is someone who can show a product naturally, speak clearly and deliver on time.
Why mums are in demand
Parents buy for a whole household. Brands in baby, beauty, home and food actively look for mums who can show real routines, real kitchens and real kids' rooms.
Your action steps
- 1Understand the difference between a UGC creator and an influencer
- 2Write down three products you already use every day
- 3Watch five UGC ads in your favourite category and note what they have in common
- 4Pick the niche you want to start with: baby, beauty, home or food
